Description of Transit • Subway & Bus Times (from google play)

Transit is your real-time urban travel companion. Open the app to instantly see accurate next departure times, track buses and trains near you on the map, and see upcoming transit schedules. Use the trip planner to quickly compare trips - including options like bus and bike, or metro and subway. Get alerted about service disruptions and delays for your favorite lines, and save frequently used locations for trip directions in a tap.

HERE’S WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
"Gives you the best route to where you want to go" - New York Times
“You won't realize how much time you can save planning until you use this app” - LA Times
“Killer app” - Wall Street Journal
"MBTA has a favorite transit app — and it's called Transit" - Boston Globe
“A one-stop-shop” - Washington Post

6 GREAT THINGS ABOUT TRANSIT:

1) The best real-time data.
The app uses the best transit agency data sources like MTA Bus Time, MTA Train Time, NJ Transit MyBus, SF MUNI Next Bus, CTA Bus Tracker, WMATA Next Arrivals, SEPTA Real-Time and many more. We combine that data with our fancy ETA prediction engine so that you get the most accurate real-time info possible for all transit modes - including buses, subways, trains, streetcars, metros, ferries, ridehail and more. Prefer to travel on two wheels? With GPS, you can see live bikeshare and scooter locations right on the map.

2) Travel offline
Bus schedules, stop locations, subway maps and even our trip planner are available offline.

3) Powerful trip planning
See fast and easy trips combining buses, subways and trains – the app even suggests routes that combine multiple options in one trip like bus + bike or scooter + metro. You’ll find great trip plans that you never even considered! Don’t like to walk a lot or use a certain mode or transit agency? Personalize your travel in the settings.

4) GO: our step-by-step navigator*
Receive departure alarms to catch your bus or train, and get alerted when it’s time to get off or transfer. When using GO, you’ll also crowdsource more accurate info and real-time ETAs for other passengers– and rack up points and thank yous for being the most helpful rider on your line.

5) User Reports
See what other riders have to say! With millions of users contributing, you’ll get helpful info on crowding levels, on-time performance, the closest subway exits, and more.

6) Easy Payments
Pay your transit fare and buy bikeshare passes directly in the app in over 75 cities.

- Secret update to our bike navigation that is not actually secret at all (but we’re keeping hush-hush about it until we add the final touches to our masterpiece)

- Fixed a bug in the space-time continuum that asked you “is your bus stop too dark?” when it was the middle of the afternoon. Turns out that sunsets are indeed a thing… thank you Sam D. for recalibrating our sundials.

Our release notes writer is taking some time off. Before leaving, he texted every Transit employee an inscrutable hyperlink.

Turns out it’s no phishing scam: it’s a map of our bard’s bagel-fueled bike trip, coast-to-coast across the USA. Hopefully his bike experience comes in handy for next release notes…

We’ve been whittling the spring away in sing-song toil at Transit HQ, making pull request after melodious pull request, setting you all up for some sub-premely impressive midsummer announcements.

As we put the finishing touches on our metro-politan magnum opuses, you’ll have to settle for the usual sequence of bug abatements and new market launches: Porto! Lisbon! Dubai! Scotland! Bisous, bisous.

As the mercury meter hops around like a jack-in-the-box, we’re bringing you a weatherproofed wagon of spring cleaning improvements, like:

- Better bicycle trip plans. More options, fewer overlapping legs/zigzagging portions, and stronger biases for bike paths and lightly trafficked roads
- Added bathtub plugs and caulking to leaky strings in the UI, everything is pixel-perfect now

Taylor Swift: transit icon? The banjo-bound hordes are setting ridership records — in this edition of Transit we’ve thus decided to:

- Shake It Off (“it” being the deluge of real-time feeds we were accidentally loading simultaneously, which slowed the app to a crawl if you happened to be near a lot of transit lines)
- say Hey Stephen (because our editor is on vacation in Nova Scotia, unable to reign in deez Fearless puns)

BENELUX! Hello Belgium + Netherlands + Luxembourg. You gave us chocolate, waffles, tulips, and Bouneschlupp. In turn, we’re giving your cities the gift of Transit.

COLOUR CORRECTION! we have finally seen the light, literally, and recalibrated colours in Transit to make them more legible.

So your iOS cousins finally get the Transit widget (ten years late). But we’ve also made our Android widget even prettier ;)

What else?

Real soon you’ll find out. Or maybe you already have? You’ll notice it as soon as you open Transit. At the moment, it’s only available in a few cities. Limiting the release, we can make sure it’s perfect when it launches in your city, and then… Everywhere.

We have translated our app into Dutch.

Are we live in any Dutch cities yet? No.

We’ll let you guess what’s happening in the next update.

PS: we hebben de 'app-bugs' met verpletterende kracht vernield en ze voor altijd in de koude omhelzing van de donkere afgrond gestuurd

PPS: geef ons vijf sterren als je een briljante vertaler bent
New in Transit 5.8.1
We now support sneaky routes!
Many cities have routes that change their names mid-trip. (Like Portland’s Orange Line, which is really the Yellow Line Part 2. Or Seattle’s 14, which secretly hatches into the 1.)
Now on these routes, instead of saying, “get off the Orange and board the Yellow”, we’ll tell you to sit tight.
No more awkward situations exiting the bus, then getting back on the exact same one!

Rate us 5 stars for keeping things weirder than Portland’s public transit nomenclature.

Two’s a party.

Three’s a crowd.

Twenty-twenty’s a certifiable GONG SHOW.

But at least we have new crowding indicators for all your upcoming departures!!!

You can tap any line to see crowding levels alongside each ETA. Such as 5:05 (Not crowded); 5:06 (Some crowding); 5:10 (Crowded). Now in select cities!

PS: rate us 5 stars, because five ain’t a crowd... it’s a lifestyle, fam.
New in Transit 5.7.17
- how crowded is your bus or train?
- now we show you, with pictograms
- is it empty? semi-empty? more packed than the backpack of a 23 y/o headed to Berlin for the 1st time? (available in NYC + select cities. more, soon.)
- also: replaced metric distance estimates with miles/feet, for our American friends

Rate us 5 stars if you’d walk 804.7 km — and if you’d walk 804.7 km more — just to be the person who walks 1609.3 km, just to fall down beside Berghain’s door…. da da da, da da da!
New in Transit 5.7.16
- We used to say you were “0 mins away” when you were near a bikeshare — now we’ll just say “You’re here”
- (Sorry if you’re the person who tells their friends “GUYS, I’M ONLY ZERO MINUTES AWAY FROM A BIKE!”)
- Tap a trip in the Trip Planner: on the map, you’ll now see just the 2 next departures, instead of an irrelevant seventeen-bus fiesta
- New: real-time vehicle accessibility for semi-accessible lines, where data exists
- More descriptive “service change" banners

HELLLOOOO LOS ANGELES!!!!!

We were just picked to be the official app of LA Metro. How cool is that??? (Answer: definitely cooler than the hot pepper pizza in our 5000°F industrial oven.)

What else?

- You can now buy bus tickets in Transit for GET Bus in Bakersfield, CA!
- Why were random transit agencies appearing on your settings??? (The agency in Burlington, VT is now no longer visible in Montreal. Bernie, we’re sorry.)

That’s it y’all! Rate us 5 étoiles & say hi on twitter @transitapp!

Because you haven’t heard the word “Zoom” enough in the past two months:

Introducing AuTo-ZoOm:

Tap any transit line on the home screen. We’ll now “zoom out” the map, to include your location + the nearest vehicle on that line.

New thing #2: vehicle locations, now in the trip planner. Tap open a trip plan & see your bus/train hurtling towards ya.

Please rate us 5 stars & leave us a note @transitapp — we read every single one!

I mean, what else is there to do these days? :’)

Bafflingly-big
Update,
Guys:

Fixing
Irascible &
X-tremely
Enraging
Software snafus!

Yet another classic “bbug fixess” update from your bbest friendss at Transit. Bbesides patching up miscellaneous glitchess, we have added the ability to see your “saved locations” — like Home and Work and Balthazar’s Free Range Chicken Castle — on the map, when you tap open a transit line.

That, and better train transfers in the trip plan.

Ok bye. Rate us 5 stars with your best “TRANSIT” acrostic poem.
New in Transit 5.6.7
- There was a hobgoblin who would change ETAs as you flit between the homescreen and trip details screen
- Hobgoblin gone; ETAs now always consistent
- Imperceptible stability improvements to GO
- The address of a “Favourite location” will no longer occasionally drift
- Unless you have added the Mid-Atlantic Ridge separating North America and Europe as a “Favourite location”, in which case…

Rate us 5 stars to send that Dastardly Tectonic Ridge back where it came from! (About 2.5cm away)

-Fixed bug where GO said you helped between “500 million” and “17 billion” riders
-GO stats no longer count the ghosts, fairies, leprechauns and poltergeists you’ve helped along your journey

-Bike paths now appear in multimodal trip plans

-Trip planner walking speed is now 10% slower than before
-New Yorkers: sorry. It’s not you, it’s them.

Rate us 5 stars & tweet @transitapp if we should secretly increase the assumed walking speed, 0.1% per day, to get everyone walking as fast as NYers ;)
New in Transit 5.4.11
-Some NYC subways were going up-and-down on the map like a sadistic child’s creation in Roller Coaster Tycoon
-Revoked our roller coaster privileges
-Subway map back to normal

-Ridehail sign-ins broke
-Ridehail sign-ins fixed
-As always, you can make ride-hail disappear in the settings
-(Just like our amusement park guests used to disappear, in the pond)

Multimodal trip planner. Now with more multi.

Before you could connect:
1. scooters, or bikeshares, or ridehails with…
2. rail

Now you can connect
1. PERSONAL BIKES, or scooters, or bikeshares, or ridehails with…
2. BUSES or rail or ferries (!)

Take that, LinkedIn: we got so many connections your head will spin... while you take a Spin scooter. To a bus.

What else? It’s July. We’re at the beach. Shuck us five starfishes; we’ll whip up some bug fixes. Bye!
New in Transit 5.4.5
What do Billie Eilish, King Henry VIII, and Janet Jackson all have in common? You guessed it! None of them are from Buenos Aires, Argentina — Transit’s newest supported city.

It’s a bird it’s a plane nope wait actually sorry folks our mistake it was DEFINITELY a bird.

Give a warm “peep peep” to Transit’s newest mode: shared electric scooters. Currently available in SF, San Diego, LA, and DC from Bird, Spin, and Waybots.

Rather than juggling four different apps, just check our MAP to find a DELECTABLE ZIPPY FRIEND. Ok sorry for the all caps we’re just really excited.

Rate us five stars for capitalizing on this opportunity.

STOP ALERTS: when service on yo’ line is fine—but service at yo’ stop is not.

Tap on a disrupted line. You can now:
- Press the alert to make the danger triangle /!\ go away
- See disrupted stops*

*But only in cities that publish stop data: Montreal, DC, and… Stockholm?

That’s right, Björn, Bibi, King Carl & Mats Sundin. Welcome, Swedish city #1!

PS: tweet your agency & ask them to add stop alert data. pls.
PPS: tell the swedes
PPPS: unscramble “SFVERITAS” and tweet the answer @transitapp <3

It’s a Bird! It’s a train! Wait it’s actually both? With rail + scooter/bikeshare trips!

-See where a multimodal trip is faster than pure transit/scoot/bike.
-Get directions to the closest scoot/bike, and rail station
-Unlock + pay in one tap (for bikeshare in MTL+TOR+CHI+MPLS...)

If there’s a fast & cheap way to skip a long walk—you don’t need to do research. Keep your Kryptonite at home ;)

PS: Sorry Spider-Man, no “rail + web” support yet
PPPPPS: Send 1 star for every P in this line?

- Fixed a zoom bug
- The name zoom bug is much cooler than the actual bug, which was rather mundane
- Text in Romance languages was sometimes appearing in English
- We lit some candles, broke out the wine, now we’re much better at them
- Conoscete qualcuno che è carino, single e italiano? Devono amare i treni

-Carsharing reservations that took forever. Now, less reservation reservations.
-Freeze-on-launch bug (when location permissions weren’t granted.)
-Miscellaneous GO crashes
-Bikesharing stations looked “empty” but weren’t.
